Situated along the majestic Oldman River, within view of the beautiful Porcupine Hills, vast prairie landscapes and of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, Fort Macleod offers visitors the chance to go back in time and experience history first-hand. This last frontier in the West tells a story of the Blackfoot Nation’s culture and heritage at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump; the North West Mounted Police heritage and history at The Fort Museum of the NWMP and 1884 NWMP Barracks Provincial Historic Site.
Visitors to Fort Macleod Historic Main Street can experience the Empress Theatre, Alberta’s oldest theatre and the jewel of Main Street. Throughout the summer visitors are invited to join daily live tours of the Empress Theatre and daily Walking Tours of Historic Main Street. While Fort Macleod’s historic area provides visitors with a glimpse into the richness of the past, this dynamic town also offers many vibrant cultural events and recreational opportunities.
